The versatility of a braided hairstyle is a huge advantage, and a braid or two also keeps hair out of your face, and everything in place. Love a style that ensures staying put!

Clarifying treatments for summer hair

Summertime is for trips to the beach, days at the lake, and poolside afternoons.

What happens when we do this? Our hair becomes drier from the hard water deposits, chlorine, and soaking up UV rays. The good news is that you can refresh and heal your hair with clarifying products.

Summertime is for trips to the beach, days at the lake, and poolside afternoons.
What happens when we do this? Our hair becomes drier from the hard water deposits, chlorine, and soaking up UV rays. The good news is that you can refresh and heal your hair with clarifying products.
Think of clarifying your hair as a cleansing to create a clean canvas. Clarifying treatments remove build-up on both your scalp and hair that has accumulated over time from those summer activities. Leaving buildup on your scalp and hair can lead to clogged hair follicles, a dull appearance to your hair, and if you have color treated hair, it can affect your color.
By giving your scalp and hair a deep clean, you’ll gently cleanse away hard water’s effects, bacteria, balance your skin’s pH and you’ll also restore your hair’s softness, shine, and bounce. All of these benefits promote good cell turnover and a healthy environment for optimal hair growth.

What to use and when to clarify your hair:

Shampoo and Conditioner

How to manage oily hair

Managing oily hair is a common concern - and oily hair is actually caused by an oily scalp. Why does it happen? A greasy scalp is usually caused by an overproduction of sebum, which normally keeps your hair healthy and shiny when it is distributed in a lesser amount. When there is too much sebum on your scalp, it finds its way down to your strands, giving you that feeling of wanting to shampoo immediately.
Having an oily scalp can compound and cause buildup, which can be very frustrating. Before you think you’re stuck with this problem, there are ways to keep the greasiness to a minimum. Here are some hair hacks to manage your scalp and hair with ease.
  1. Use a shampoo that cleanses the scalp

We have a couple of oil busting shampoos that do the job of keeping your scalp pristine and cleansed. R+Co’s Crown is a soothing and purifying scrub that will detox, cleanse and re-balance your scalp. It is known to be a winner for sensitive and oily scalp.

Looking for an everyday shampoo that will keep your scalp in check? R+Co’s Oblivion offers a gentle cleansing and thorough removal of all buildup that is mild enough for daily use.

2. Use a rinse

Even if you're using a clarifying shampoo, you'll want to make sure you rinse it out completely to avoid buildup. R+Co's Acid Wash is an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse for the hair that can be used on its own, or to be used to help rinse out shampoo. Your hair should feel clean and not at all silk at the root near the scalp once the rinse is complete.

3. Add a dry shampoo to your haircare routine

Adding a dry shampoo to you hair routine is beneficial for just about any hair type, but those of us with oily scalp may find extra relief with a dry shampoo because using one can lengthen the time between regular shampoos. Hot tip: use a dry shampoo when your hair is clean, after drying to add even more time on before you need to shampoo again. We love R+Co’s Skyline because it’s a powder that really soaks up extra oil. It also dramatically refreshes second-day or post-workout hair.
