3 Ways to achieve beachy waves

There’s something about beachy waves that gets us in the mood for summer. Maybe it’s the fact that they’re an easy vacay ‘do, or maybe it’s the effortless, yet fun look they achieve.
The origins of beachy waves can be traced back to the 1920s, when women first began to embrace their natural hair texture. During this time, Marcel waves were popular, which were created using a hot iron and a twisting technique. This created a wave pattern that was similar to the natural waves of the ocean.
In the 1960s, the beachy wave look became popular again, with the rise of the surf culture in California. Women began to wear their hair in loose, tousled waves, which became known as "surfer girl" hair. This look was popularized by Brigitte Bardot and Sharon Tate, who both had a carefree and effortless look that was perfect for the beach…and the style hasn’t gone anywhere since.
Whether you have short or long hair, you can easily create beachy waves with the right tools and products.
First things first, you’ll want to use a sea salt/texturizing spray to achieve your best beach-wave look. We love Hairstory’s Undressed Spray to create luxurious, weightless beachy waves without that dry, sticky feel of sea salt. Undressed also adds volume, moisturizes, and protects against UV rays.

A few ways to style beachy waves with Undressed:

  1. Braids: One of the easiest ways to create beachy waves is by braiding your hair while it is damp. Simply spray damp hair with Undressed, then divide your hair into sections and braid each section, securing with an elastic. Leave the braids in overnight and then undo them in the morning for loose waves.
  2. Curling Iron: If you prefer a more defined wave, you can use a curling iron to create beachy waves. Choose a barrel size that is appropriate for your hair length and texture, and wrap small sections of hair around the barrel, holding for a few seconds before releasing. After releasing, spray Undressed on your hair and tousle for a polished, beachy look.
  3. Air-dry: For a more relaxed and tousled wave, spray Undressed on wet or damp hair, then gently scrunch and let your hair air dry.

The bob: A timeless cut

hair by Jade

Are you ready to join the bob squad? The bob hair cut has been a classic hairstyle for decades, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. It's versatile, stylish, and suits all face shapes, making it a popular choice for many people.
First things first, let's talk about the history of the bob. The bob became popular in the 1920s, a time when women were breaking free from the traditional long hair that had been the norm for centuries. The bob was a symbol of independence and rebellion, and it quickly became a staple in the fashion world.
One of the best things about the bob is that it's low maintenance. It can be a wash-and-go style that requires minimal effort, making it perfect for those who don't want to spend a long time drying and styling their hair every day.
Here are some of our favorite bob haircuts…

Classic bob:

The classic bob is a chin-length haircut that is cut straight across at the nape of your neck and features straight, blunt-cut bangs. This timeless haircut looks great on most face shapes and hair textures and is perfect for those who want a low-maintenance yet stylish look.

A-Line bob:

The A-line bob is cut so that your hair is shorter in the back and longer in the front. This cut creates an angled, "A" shape that frames the face and adds dimension to the hair. This cut can help elongate your face.

Layered bob:

A bob with layers is a great way to add texture and movement to your hair. This cut features layers of different lengths that create a feathered effect, adding volume and dimension to the hair. It is ideal for those with thick hair as it helps to thin out the hair and make it more manageable.

The lob:

The lob haircut is a longer version of the classic bob haircut. It typically falls somewhere between the chin and collarbone, making it longer than a traditional bob but shorter than long hair.

The fun factor of the cut…

There's something about a bob that just screams fun and playful. Maybe it's the way it bounces as you walk or the way it frames your face, but there's no denying that the bob is a hairstyle that exudes personality. It's a hairstyle that says, "I'm confident, I'm stylish, and I'm ready to take on the world."
So, if you're thinking about getting a bob, go for it! Whether you're looking for a dramatic change or just a subtle update, the bob is a hairstyle that will never go out of style.
At ash salon, we will consult with you on the best bob cut for your hair, face shape, and lifestyle.
