Must-Have Hair Accessories for the Holiday Season

While you may have the perfect outfit for those festive holiday gatherings, have you considered giving your hair the attention it deserves? Accessorizing your hair can add that extra touch of glamour to compliment your holiday looks. Here are some of our favorite ways to accessorize:

Headbands and Hairbands:

One of the easiest ways to add a touch of holiday magic to your hair is by incorporating a headband or hairband. Opt for ones adorned with rhinestones, pearls, or bows. These accessories not only keep your hair in place but also add a touch of festive elegance. For a tutorial and products to use to style your hair with a headband, read on here.

Glittering Hair Clips:

Embrace the holiday spirit with glittering hair clips in various shapes and sizes. Whether you prefer classic barrettes, bobby pins, or statement clips, choose accessories that compliment your outfit and hairstyle. Before adding adornments, we recommend using a texturizing product to add grit to the hair to hold the clips of your choice all day or night long. R+Co's Trophy Shine + Texture Spray adds texture, shine + flexible hold.
For a playful look, gather a section of your hair to the side and secure it with a row of sparkling bobby pins. If you're aiming for sophistication, consider parting your hair down the middle and securing each side near your face with a couple elegant barrettes adorned with pearls or crystals on each side. Create visual interest by mixing and matching different clip sizes and styles. The key to styling with barrettes and clips is to have fun experimenting with placement and combinations, allowing your personality to shine through.

Metallic Hair Wraps:

If you're looking for a more refined touch, consider incorporating glitzy hair wraps into your hairstyle. These accessories can be used to secure updos or add a touch of glamour to loose waves.
For loose waves or curls, consider adorning a few strands with delicate gold coils, creating a subtle yet stunning accent. If you're opting for an updo, strategically place gold wraps around the base or weave them through braids for a touch of glamour.
To finish your look, spray with a flexible hairspray to ensure that your accessory(ies) don’t budge. R+Co’s Backbend Keeps your styles in place and flyaways tame with a fast-drying weightless finish.

Holiday Bubble Braid Ponytail

Images via Pinterest

The Bubble braid ponytail offers a playful and chic alternative to traditional braided looks and is perfect for any holiday event. This hairstyle is not only versatile but also surprisingly easy to create. Whether you're heading to a casual holiday brunch or a formal event, a bubble braid can add a touch of whimsy to your look. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the step-by-step process of styling your bubble braid.
Materials Needed:
  1. Hair elastics
  2. Hairbrush or comb
  3. Texture spray
  4. Hairspray
Step 1: Prep Your Hair
Start with clean, dry hair. To avoid slippery hair, add some texture spray to give it more texture and hold. R+Co's Lifestyler Volume & Texture Spray weightlessly adds texture, pliability, and lustrous body & movement. Brush or comb your hair to remove any tangles and ensure a smooth base for braiding.
Step 2: Create a High Ponytail
Gather all your hair at the crown of your head and secure it with a hair elastic to create a high ponytail. This will serve as the base for your bubble braid.
Step 3: Divide and Conquer
Divide the ponytail into several sections, depending on how many bubbles you want. For a classic bubble braid look, create three or four sections. The sections should be relatively equal in size.
Step 4: Bubble Time
Take the first section of hair and secure it with another elastic about two inches down from the base. Gently tug on the hair between the two elastics to create the bubble effect. Repeat this process for each section, ensuring that the bubbles are evenly spaced. Optional: Wrap a small piece of hair around the elastic and secure the ends inside the elastic.
Step 5: Fluff it Up
To add volume and texture to your bubble braids, gently pull apart each section of the braid. This will give your hairstyle a more relaxed and effortless appearance.
Step 6: Secure the Ends and Spray
Once you've reached the bottom of your ponytail, secure the ends with a final elastic. You can leave the ends loose for a carefree look or tuck them underneath the last bubble for a neater finish. Once you're done styling, finish your bubble braid with a hairspray that provides some shine. R+Co's Reflective Shine Hairspray gives a mirror-like shine and lightweight hold adds instant glamour to your style.
Optional: Add hair accessories like clips, ribbons, or even small flowers to enhance the overall aesthetic. Experiment with different colors and textures to make the style uniquely yours.

Elevate Your Holiday Looks with Chic Bows

The holiday season is upon us, and what better way to get into the festive spirit than by sharing holiday hair looks? Through the rest of this year, we will be sharing style inspiration for all of your holiday events.
Bows are making a huge comeback this season, and for good reason! Whether you're attending a cozy family gathering or a glamorous holiday party, bows can instantly elevate your hairstyle and add a touch of merry charm.
These hairstyles will not only showcase your festive spirit but also add a touch of whimsy to your overall ensemble.

Braided Beauty: Bow-Embellished Braids

Braids are versatile and can be customized to suit any occasion. For a holiday twist, create two loose braids and secure them together with a ribbon or a bow at the end. Once secured, gently pull the braided sections loose and then spray with a flexible hairspray. We love R+Co’s Outer Space Hairspray for this style. This look is not only romantic but also effortlessly captures the festive spirit.

Half-Up, Half-Down

If you prefer to keep your hair partially down, try the half-up, half-down hairstyle adorned with bows. Part your hair in the middle or to the side, and gather the top section into a half-up or partially-up ponytail. Secure the ponytail with a bow, allowing the ends to cascade gracefully down. Once you’re done styling, use a control spray to ensure your hair stays in place. We love R+Co’s Foil spray as it creates long-lasting, flexible control for smooth, shiny results. This style strikes the perfect balance between casual and chic, making it suitable for various holiday gatherings.

Accessorize with a Bow Headband

To enhance volumized hair with a bow headband, start by gently teasing your hair with a comb and  volumizing spray. R+Co's Balloon Spray adds instant volume and texture with a great finish and hold - all without dulling hair or weighing it down. Once you've achieved your desired volume, select a bow headband that compliments your outfit and the overall theme of the holiday occasion. Place the headband on your head, positioning it a few inches back from your hairline. To maximize the impact, you can slightly lift the hair at the crown for added lift and dimension. Allow the bow to sit atop the volumized section of your hair, creating a harmonious balance between the fullness of your hair and the stylish accent of the headband. This simple addition not only keeps your hair in place but also adds a touch of charm and elegance to your overall look, making it a perfect accessory for festive gatherings or holiday celebrations.
